Dietrich Austermann

"Its combination of global management and scientific expertise in world economics will enable the Murmann School to have a tremendous effect on northern Germany, both as a scientific landscape as well as a business location. Together with the nationally and internationally recognised competence of the Christian-Albrechts University Kiel and Kiel Institute for the World Economy, this will put the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein on the right path to becoming a centre for the teaching and research of global economics."
Dietrich Austermann, Minister for Science, Economics and Transport of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein

After studying law in Berlin and Münster, Dietrich Austermann worked as a lawyer and notary public before becoming a full-time mayor, first in the community of Barsbüttel/Stormarn and then in Brunsbüttel/Dithmarschen. Before he was appointed as Minister for Science, Economics and Transport of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein, he was chief executive and financial officer of the city of Göttingen. Since 1982, he has been a member of the German Bundestag [Lower House of German Parliament] as an MP for the CDU/CSU Party (Christian Democratic Union/Christian-Social Union of Bavaria).
